Don’t miss the rare and unforgettable sight of the Rocky Mountains washed in the shimmering light of the full moon. On August 25, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad leaves Chama, NM at 3 p.m. on one of only two moonlight train rides this year.

First, the train will thread its way into the mountains as the sun is setting and painting the sky in vivid colors. Along the way, it snakes around the rim of the Cumbres pass at over 10,000 feet. There’s a stop for a country-style dinner in the old mining town, Osier, Colorado. Then the train returns to Chama beneath the full moon. High in the mountains, with no city lights to dilute it, the moonlight makes the spectacular scenery seem to glow. The train will reach the Chama station around 10PM.

This special Moonlight train will feature entertainer, Jimmy Stadler, recipient of NM’s Music Award, Best CD of the year. Jimmy, a Taos, NM resident, has performed with such great musicians as Texas Fiddle/Mandolin Legend Johnny Gimble, America’s #1 Cowboy, Michael Martin Murphy, as well as Grammy Award Winning Singer, Lynn Anderson just to name a few. His dinner performance is sure to add to the ambiance of the moonlight adventure.

Both $69 coach and $119 parlor car tickets are available. There is an open observation car, which all passengers may use.

The Cumbres & Toltec is the most authentic, steam-powered, narrow-gauge railroad in the country, as it retains all it’s original equipment and even many of its historic buildings from the heyday of railroads in the West. Frommer’s, a respected publisher of travel guides, recently called it “the most scenic train ride in the universe.”

There will be the last moonlight train ride of the season. So this is a don’t miss event. For more information and reservations, call 1-877-890-CUMBRES.
